Doesn’t want high schoolers to answer.
Lol…

I want to point out one thing here- for a lot of people from the ‘previous gen’, atleast where I come from, not studying/helping around the house/whatever for a lot of the day was equivalent to being irresponsible and lazy and… insert appropriate adjectives here So playing, socializing, painting, playing the guitar- things that OUR generation considers valuable skills, were just a sidey distraction back then.
So, while some people might consider this development of, well, developing a rounded personality by juggling many skills, as going ‘backward’, as in spending less time on academic study, our generation clearly thinks otherwise.
We value this culture of learning multiple skills, even if means sliding a little in studies. Still, heck, even our level of academics, as pointed out previously, is higher than what it was. We have incredibly competitive peers in an incredibly competitive world.
You can call it ‘degradation’ but I don’t agree.

That said, we as a generation are also more self centered, socially cut off (I mean, ACTUAL social contact has lessened due to social media) and we don’t cope with the tons of distractions in the outside world very well (obviously). And I don’t think we are as etiquette-bound as the last gens were. We tend to speak our minds and do what we want and go where we want to, hang ethics and morality.

Let me not even get started on ‘popular culture’. There are too many debates about whether yester-years’ cultural influences were more meaningful and worthy than ours. (I agree completely, but that’s beside the point here I guess :P)

Also,

My lord people. All I needed was a respectable answer and I know some were, but COME ON! I thought trolling came from idiots. Knock it off! Everything I post under any topic gets rude answers. So please, the golden rule should always be used.

well, you’re obviously concerned with generational decline. your views are probably just due to the school you attended: small sample size, dude.

that’s a tough question. I think though it’s MUCH harder to get into a good college now then it was even one generation ago, it has to do with us being sort of the baby boom generation. I don’t think that our generation has necessarily a higher percentage of lazy or studious people, I just think that the number of studious people have increased faster than class sizes at universities have. so I suppose our generation really isn’t that different from past generations. people will always think the teenagers of their time are a disgrace, and they always have.

there. I gave you a serious answer, and even though I had a hard time of taking you seriously after reading retrohippo’s post xDDD speaking of which, awesome username

@OP I think my response was serious. Read it thoroughly and comment on it before calling it “rude.” In fact, I find what you just posted rude. Maybe your tone is the reason you feel that you repeatedly get “rude” responses.

I think that people are getting stupider and smarter at the same time, that there are two extremes.
There is a behavioral issue going on, with the way people dress, how they act, 16 and pregnant etc etc xD
But then again, look at how competitive it is to get into colleges. Some people do have a good sense of moral and are extremely hardworking.
It’s just the bad fruits of our generation that are getting more attention than the good ones that might make the op think that.

Well, I don’t think I<3Edward@!!! girls are likely to be leaders in the future, so why worry?

I don’t think the problem is that my generation is lazier or does not have as much of a work ethic, but that we have access to more distractions in our life than any previous generation, what with Facebook, Twitter, email, etc. It’s much easier to surf the Internet for an hour than to study physics, and now we have the option of choosing.

@Wangsta: besides the sagging and booty shorts we are the best dressers. 16 and pregnant is a stupid idea for a show (not worse then JS).

@xanthosis: true but we can however use the internet to study for high school course. and with google around, we can find anything and know the facts with ease.

On topic: Laziness is actually just one person, not an entire generation. You can says that this generation does not yet know the true meaning of war, but we are seeing revolutions. You can say that you ruin the future for your children, but we’ll come up with a solution. The passing of the torch, to fix the world problem. This is what each generation was entitled to, and to say that one is worse or better then the other is only an opinion not a true fact.

Idk. Somethings point to our generation being f-ed up, and sometimes I think every generation has its slackers. I think that noone ever hears about them though because they all end up working at low end jobs or the like, while your parents and those like them move to where you are and send there kids to a richy school.

However, I too attend a rich school and I realize how huge of a problem drugs are here, killing their users’ opportunities. To add, there are few in the actual high academic classes where more than a half seem to be slackers or at the least don’t care. So who knows.

Just worry about youself. Individualism breeds success, and you can rule over them all!

yeahhh…no.

maybe it’s just because I live on the liberal, modern, suburbia, but that doesn’t seem right. then again, our school let’s girls come in half naked with bras showing, but had an announcement the other day about guys not allowing to wear sleeveless shirts, so I don’t know. maybe my school is the only crazy one.

I just remembered Elfslayer and loled.
