Is there still hope?

Hey Guys!

After almost 4 years doing lower level work, I'm finally ready to apply to universities!

My first 2 years of college were marred by severe depression (I nearly died of an OD) and trying to work 40+ hours a week while going to school full-time.

I took a semester and a half off and started CC during Summer 2010.

My GPA before I started CC was 2.4.

It's now a 3.5.

I've earned 60+ credits- including the credits from my first 2 years. I'm talking 15 credits now and so far earning A's.

FIU is one of my main options. My advisors say I have no hope of getting into the Honors College there (or any other school, for that matter).

My high school GPA was 3.8 unweighted. I took primarily college level classes, but was home schooled and couldn't afford AP exam fees even after College Board adjustments.

I don't have ACT or SAT scores- is it too late to take them?

What other colleges can I apply to?

EDIT:
I want to study Economics and Philosophy with a minor in Math.
Math has always been my weakest subject, but I've spent the last 18 months making it one of my strengths.

Law & Public Health school are in my plans for the future.

ECs:
Hospital Volunteer 2010-current 8 hours per week.
Law Firm Intern 2011
Humana- patient outreach.

Work Exp:
2009-2010
Worked full-time as a referral coordinator for a local surgeon.

The ACT/SAT will probably be required, so I would sign up for those if I were you. Assuming you’re in Florida, I would apply to UF and FSU but I wouldn’t go out of state because transfers get pretty financial aid there. Hope this helps, good luck!
