Is there time to play videogames while at Cal?

Hi,

I was wondering whether one has any time to play videogames while at Cal. I'm researching the market for a laptop for college, and I've narrowed it down to a Dell XPS M1530 and a Lenovo Thinkpad. I don't plan on playing videogames much because there's so many other things to do, but it'd be fun to play against my dorm mates every now and then, especially once StarCraft 2 comes out. I don't know if the ThinkPad can handle it since its graphics cards aren't that great, but the XPS can pretty much handle anything.

So what I want to know is, would you suggest the ThinkPad or the XPS? Gaming and multimedia or durability and business design?

xps :] when u get home on breaks u’ll wanna play ;)

xps is great for gaming. i played moderately with my floor last year. since all the dorms are networked, you can play in the LAN with anyone connected to the dorms.

If you want to play games then get the XPS. It shouldn’t be too difficult to find time to play video games while at Cal (On my floor, we played at least an hour of Smash Bros. or Mario Kart 64 everyday).

I’m getting an XPS for occasional gaming…On a sidenote, let’s play SC II together next year  I’m sure my dorm mate would want to join in as well.

if you want to play sc2, xps is much better.

You might like playing video games now, but that is probably the best way for you to hate college. The first 3 weeks or so is probably the most important time at any school. I was the most avid BW player with a rating (before people started abusing ladder) of 1500’s, and I lost the desire permanently to play once I started taking classes. You really have to break the cycle, go to clubs, and get to know people once you’re at Cal.

Same here, BW player. How hard did you find it to quit? I’m not addicted or anything but was it easy for you to go cold turkey per se?

i agree

I wasted so much time playing video games in HS that I intend on completely abstaining from gaming in college.
