Is there typically a minimum number of students required to enroll in a class?

Especially (but not exclusively) upper-level classes? When I browsed through the courses for some departments, a lot of them say "not offered this year," and I assume it's because no one enrolled in those classes.

P.S. What's the G-option? The website explains how to use it, but it doesn't really tell what it is or the benefits of using it (other than the usual "intellectual exploration outside of comfort zone" slogan).

Not offered this year means literally that, it’s not being offered, no matter how many students might wish to take it. You can see the courses offered for each semester next year under the individual department sections in the course catalog online.

G-option is a unique sort of retroactive pass-fail thing. The benefit is that you can take a class where even working hard only gets you a B-, without affecting your GPA.
