So due to my “nontraditional eduation” colleges have requested that when I apply, I send a reading list of all the books I’ve read over the past few years. My question is whether I should include Marquis de Sade’s “Juliette”. It’s a 1,000+ page book that I put a lot of time into, but at times it’s a bit…sick and pornographic, though it’s often read for it’s philosophical merit, I suppose. Anyways, would colleges think I was wacky if I included it, or what?

include it, it shows that you read all genres of books and you are diverse. and also, you accept all beliefs :)

You don't think it would look messed up?

i don't think so. i have no idea how "sick and pornographic" that specific book is, but i'm sure colleges are aware that you're exposed to that type of stuff (i mean elements of them) all the time, even at school. we watched shakespeare in love at school as freshmen... that had an explicit sexual scene. "the good earth" has a seventy year old guy sleeping with a pre-teen. i'm sure there are more examples, but can't think of them right now. plus, a lot of high school seniors are 18 already, meaning they can watch rated-R movies, meaning they are deemed responsible or mature enough to handle movies and literature that have sexual contents in them.

That makes sense, but I mean, it's written by the Marquis de Sade, and mainly the entire thing is very pornographic like at times. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0802130852/qid=1109889007/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-6247587-5455122 I just don't want anyone thinking I am psychotic, haha.

I'd list it, as long as the rest of your list isn't completely composed of other equally-questionable books.

Or maybe I'm just saying this because I intend to read it someday to (curiousity, ah! Thanks to "Quills".)

Yeah, I thought it could be balanced with "Les Miserables" and nice stories and such, which would be good. There definitely isn't a pattern or anything, this was the only questionable book.
