Is This A Bad Sign?

Hey there. I applied Early Decision to the Cornell College of Arts and Sciences - and, like most of you, I'm awaiting the final decision that's coming out this Friday.

Anyway, today I received a letter from the Cornell College of Human Ecology - which said that, based on what I said my academic interests were in my application, I might want to consider looking at the College of Human Ecology. They sent me a brochure as well.

So does this mean that I didn't get into the College of Arts and Sciences? If I was going to get into CAS, then why would they send me information about Human Ecology?

Any advice at all would be most appreciated.

They've been sending me that thing since 9th grade. I wouldn't think too much about it. Are you an NYS resident? Sometimes, they just send that out to some residents to get more to apply to those schools.

I don't know if NatalyaBoberto is right about that...it seems strange that they sent it based on what you have said in your application...I wish I knew what to tell you...

That's probably just a random thing they sent to everyone on the mailing list. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. Besides, let's say that you hadn't gotten into CAS, wouldn't it be too late to apply to Human Ecology?

<<are you="" an="" nys="" resident?="">></are>

No, I am not.

<<sometimes, they="" just="" send="" that="" out="" to="" some="" residents="" get="" more="" apply="" those="" schools.="">></sometimes,>

That's what I thought. I just thought it was weird that they were sending it to me when they know I couldn't possibly apply to the College of Human Ecology, seeing as how I've already applied for CAS.

Did it say that it learned of your academic interests through YOUR APPLICATION? Usually, they send these random mailings based on lists obtained by the Collegeboard and other surveys you may have filled out.

<<did it="" say="" that="" learned="" of="" your="" academic="" interests="" through="" application?="">></did>

The letter says: "We are delighted in your interest in Cornell University. Your described academic interest suggests that you may want to take a closer look at the College of Human Ecology."

I assumed they learned of my interests through my application, because the College of Arts and Sciences requires you to write an essay about your academic interests.

<<usually, they="" send="" these="" random="" mailings="" based="" on="" lists="" obtained="" by="" the="" collegeboard="" and="" other="" surveys="" you="" may="" have="" filled="" out.="">></usually,>

That's true. I just thought it was odd that they would send me something like this now, right before the decisions for CAS come out.

Don't worry about it. As long as it didn't say anything about your application, they probably didn't even realize that you had already applied to CAS.

Yeah...this probably has nothing to do with your application. Maybe you requested to be put on the Cornell mailing list at one point or another? Colleges often send stuff out at weird times...whenever your name comes up on the mailing list or something...

that happened to me too.
i applied to CAS, and I got a letter from CALS which said the exact same thing. strange. but i wouldnt put much stock in it.

um it doesnt mean anything

probably because the cals had you on their mailing list because you checked a certain interest that is in line with their programs on your PSATs or one of the other countless forms that you have probably filled out since high school began

I got one of those like a few weeks before I sent in part II...sounds like the same exact letter...I wouldn't worry about it too much.

"described academic interest suggests that you may want to take a closer look at the College of Human Ecology."

I wouldn't worry about this. I think I almost got all the Cornell College brochure with this same note, even though I know my academic interests that I liested on the SAT registration was not in all these colleges.

i got one too...yesterday ..and i applied to CAS

so now here's a question (though i already think i know the answer to it)

suppose i get rejected from CAS ED...can I apply to human ecology RD? because they are different colleges and i technically didn't apply to two at the same time..just a thought. i would imagine that you can't do this

no, the Cornell viewbook says that you can only apply to one college at Cornell per year. Good Luck though, hopefully you won't have to worry about that this friday :)

Dont worry, i applied to CHE and they sent me CAS, and I'm an MA resident. Go figure.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE ON FRIDAY!!
