Is this a balanced list?

Fordham
Marist
M.I.T.
Stanford
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Swarthmore
Pomona
Williams
Hofstra
Arizona State
Auburn

I'm trying to cut down so I don't waste too much $$ on the applications.

That seems like a unusual grouping of schools.
What is your intended major?

Idk. I’m torn. I like the humanities and the sciences. I live in the Southwest but I also like NY.

Your list includes small and large schools, urban and rural schools, schools with very different campus cultures…what appeals to you about each of these schools?

Well the “safeties” are mostly in NY and/or will give me good merit money. I’m wondering about the top schools since I don’t know much about them.

It seems like you have safeties and reaches, but could use more in the middle.

Definitely not enough in the middle. Even if you have 1440 (CR + Math), for example, you could still get shut out of 8 of the schools you have listed and be left with the safeties. Even places like Northwestern, Emory, Rice, Colby and Colgate would help. Choose at least one university that is slightly less selective than HYP and Stanford and at least one liberal arts college that is less selective than Williams and Pomona. Then, if you have to, reduce the reaches and safeties a little.
