I take full length CB tests when I study for the SAT. On several occassions I've either taken 2 in one day or done one Saturday and then one Sunday. Every single time I do SIGNIFICANTLY better on the second one. For example, this weekend my scores went like this:
1st test:
CR-620
M-670
W-730

2nd test:
CR-760
M-800
W-750

Is there any reasonable explanation for this? Do I just need a solid warm-up? Should I take an SAT on Friday in an attempt to warm-up for this Saturday?

I dont think its a common phenomena but wow that is a really significant difference, maybe you should just try to take one on Friday before the real one if its really that big of a jump from first to second test in a single weekend

SAT on Friday! that’s not considered a warm-up for Saturday when you just wake up. You might as well do it way early in the morning. Besides, I think I would do that: wake up at 5:00 am and do a practice SAT.

It’s not too unusual, I don’t think. That used to happen to me alot- jumping from 2100 to 2300 and so on. But if it happens every time…well, you’re probably one of those people who need to warm up. In that case, do so before the actual SAT and it might help.

Which tests did you take in the BB? It depends on which tests you took. If you took 2 of the first 3 tests in the Bluebook, then it is very unusal.

I take tests from the online course. I’ve taken all the tests except the last time and it has occured on all of them. I guess I will be waking up extra early on Saturday morning.

oh, that explains it. The tests in the online course are not previously administered exams. They are amalgamations created from old tests; therefore, there is no true score. If you have the New Blue Collegeboard book, take one of the first 3 tests TIMED and that will give you a better idea of what score you would get. If you don’t have the new Blue Book, then download the 2009-2010 practice test from the Collegeboard website and take it TIMED. It was originally administered in January 2006, so it will also give you an accurate idea of score you will receive. Hope that helps.

well clearly you do way better when you warm up, but personally i don’t think it’s necessary for you to do a full-length test when you wake up…it’s soo long.
maybe just do
1 section math
1 section reading
1 section reading
or 2 if that helps
but not all of them
