I wanted to write an essay describing my fear of roller coasters (at first), and what I gained from the experience after the first time I went on one (Gaining from trying new things in life, etc.). Would this make a good essay topic?

That being said, nothing’s crazy if it works well. If you could write an excellent, unique, and invigorating essay about the carpet in your room, go ahead. It’s really up to you. What you don’t want to do is delve into a controversial topic.

Go for it. That sounds absolutely fine to me. Just make sure you don’t just make it about the roller coaster ride, but somehow relate it to your life.

I would write about something more personal, since a lot of people have a fear of roller coasters; however, if it’s a unique story and/or it’s really changed you as a person, it’d work.
