Is this a crazy way to visit a college?

I live in the New York Metro area, and I'd like to visit Bowdoin College this summer (amongst many others - Bowdoin just applies to this situation). It would be about 6 hours driving each way to Bowdoin (Brunswick, ME). Thankfully, Jetblue, the greatest airline ever, offers service to Portland, Maine, which is 25 minutes by car from Bowdoin.

Would it be crazy to drive to the airport, catch the 9:30AM flight to Portland, arrive at 10:45, have a rental car ready, drive the 25 minutes to Bowdoin, have lunch and walk around the campus for a bit, go on the 1:30 tour and the 2:30 info session, speak with students and explore the campus more, drive back to the airport and return the car, and catch the 7:00 flight back to New York City? Keep in mind there is no baggage to check and check-in can be done online or on the phone.

On a Tuesday, for myself and my dad, this will cost around $300, and we'll get to avoid driving for 12 hours and having to stay in a hotel.

Has anybody done something of this sort? Did it work out?

Thanks.

if everything runs smoothly, that should work.

it all comes down to whether you're willing to spend $300 just to visit a college.

sounds good to me. i'm all for flying over driving, especially with the price of gas.

yeah, it would be worth it if you want to see the school. it might be nice to spend one night at a hotel so you can spend more time seeing what the area is like but if thats not an option than you could totally visit in one day and it would be worth it.

I wish I could stay overnight, but it's hard for my dad to take two weekdays off in a row. If info sessions were offered on Saturdays, then it would be doable.

What about Train and hotel?
