so i want to major in math, and i wrote that as my major. problem is, my sat I math score is 740 (low for Columbia math??) But my math 2c score is 780 and i got a 5 in ap calc ab. im wondering if it was a mistake to put down math as my intended major. on the other hand, in biology i have an A+ in ap bio, 5 on the exam, and 800 on the sat 2. I wrote bio as my 2nd option. Im wondering if i should have put this as my first major, and then math. sorry if im being overly paranoid, i just dont want to not get in because i decided to major in something im not supposedly extremely competent at.

If math is something you love (more than bio), keep it. Competence doesn't necessarily mean interest. And you have really good scores. Just because they're not literally perfect doesn't mean you're not competent. You missed like, 1 or 2 questions.

I really doubt that the majors you select on the application will affect it in any way. Students at Columbia don't declare their major until 2nd semester sophomore year (SEAS), or until end of sophomore year (CC). Besides, it's a well known fact that many students will change their minds about their major several times before they declare.

If your ECs or essays have some relation to the majors you selected, then you don't have to worry at all. If not, your choices should not have much of an effect on your application either.

wow, thanks. this is comforting to know. ill definitely keep math because thats what i want to do, or at least i think so for now. And yea, my ECs have relation to both math and bio, so thats also comforting. thanks.

You're fine: I did better in the Math SAT2 than the bio and put my intended major as bio--I got in (I ended up a neuro major but that's irrelevant)
