Is this a failure? (Common App#2)

So I'm planning to write about option #2 for Common App (Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn?)
And it's going to be about something that happened a while ago when I was in 6th grade(it was my first year at my new school). I fought over with my new(and best) friend over a petty thing. And we were both to proud to apologize to each other and we didn't talk for over 2 years. We made up later and now we're best friends. OF course in my essay there's going to be much more detail and introspection but you get the idea.
So my 'failure' would be not apologizing to my friend. Would this topic work?

Well I guess yes it would, but heres the thing:

2 years is quite a time to hold a grudge even if u made up and tells people about your price. This sort of puts u in a bad light but I dont know, it could work for you.

See how many topics you can brainstorm. My common app essay for failure took me 5 failed ideas  if u only like this one, go for it

I see what you mean, but it wasn’t like I hated the friend for the whole time; it was more like a miscommunication. And that led to a series of awkward situations which widened our distance. I just wished I had the courage to apologize earlier.
But another thing is this happened it middle school. Do you think it’s okay to write about something that happened a while ago? It kind of had a big impact on me, but I wonder if colleges would consider it significant…

They won’t think you’re a bad person just because you were immature when you were 11. I think if you make sure to show ways in which it influenced your recent decisions/actions/etc., it will be okay to write about something from middle school.
