I was just looking at Rice's website and thought this reminds me of U Chicago without the core. And the residential college system is more substantial than the smaller units at Chicago. Does this seem true or is there a lot I don't know about Rice?

I don’t know much about UChicago, but one of my friends transferred here from there and she said there were some big differences in terms of living arrangements - she had to show ID to get into her dorm at chicago and her boyfriend had to sign in/out whenever he visited. Also she said the public parties we have here would never go down at UChi

^I believe that is due to the city of Chicago’s dangerous nature as well as UChicago’s nerdy nature.

lol

Rice has a lot in common with Chicago in terms of atmosphere at the undergraduate level.
However, the academic differences are profound. Rice has great strengths in professional programs: engineering, architecture, music. It also has relatively weak departments in the humanities and social sciences. The emphasis on humanistic learning at Chicago is quite different from the emphases at Rice.
On the other hand, the two schools share the rare asset of a learning and social environment that embraces study for its own sake.
