I took the SAT in december and got a 2130 (690 CR 750 M 690 W). I'm taking the May test and I want a 2300 to make up for my somewhat weak GPA. My study plans include not having a social life over spring break, doing the 200+ question of the days I have saved up in my gmail inbox, doing the whole Gruebers 2400 book, some private tutoring and 3 or 4 practice tests. I'd really like some input on how to accomplish my dream score of 750 CR 800 M 750 W or at least whether or not I'm being realistic here.

I wouldn’t stress out on SAT too much. I didn’t even get a 2100 on SAT (610 CR, 800 M, 660 W = 2070) but still got accepted into MIT and UC Berkeley.

If I were you, I’d work at improving your GPA. Colleges don’t necessarily look for high GPA; they also consider trends in GPA. For example, if you started out weak but finished off junior and senior years with a 4.0, that will look good on your application. Alternatively, they will notice if you start with a 4.0 but finish junior/senior year with a 2.0.

Of course, if you’re applying to the top universities, you would ideally work on both, and also work on making your application “stand out” (e.g. participating in clubs, internships, competitions, etc.).
