anon9362, Congratulation on getting into Fordham and Siena. At least you know you have options besides the generic state university even if you don’t get into your reaches so you can relax a bit. Good luck with the others tho.
Congratulations on getting into 2 of your matches and 2 of your your safeties! Are they affordable?
Scranton is a better school than either safety, I think it’d be difficult to choose between it and Bing if the price was right.
Fordham is an excellent college, too, especially if you want to be in the city.
What’s your budget?
What’s your net price before loans at each college you’ve been accepted to?
Thank you! I just found out that I got $19,000 from Scranton yesterday! I got $20,000 from Siena plus acceptance into the honors program. Fordham releases decisions later this week, but I already got an email stating that I will be admitted. I just have to check back for the official notification to check out scholarships. Siena comes out much cheaper than scranton with the NPC and I love the school a lot.
@MYOS1634 I don’t really have a specific budget, but it has to be reasonable. I don’t know what kind of money I’m getting from Fordham yet but it has the highest tuition on my list. I got no scholarship money from Bing and I still don’t know if I’ll get into the honors program for any of these schools besides Siena. My estimated price for Scranton was not very good. My estimate for Siena is looking really great though. Siena actually came out cheaper than Binghamton on my NPC because of the scholarship lol. It’s definitely my favorite so far, but hopefully I get into a reach.
That matters most isn’t the amount of the scholarship, but rather what net cost before loans is.
Find out from your parents what amount, or range, they can commit to.
Siena and Scranton are great schools, congratulations
Oh I know @MYOS1634, I did my NPC and Siena gave more. Thank you for all your support!
anon9362, well seems like a no brainer to me. There is quite a difference between a nonflagship generic large public institution and the private colleges you mention. And if they are cheaper to boot, well then it won’t be hard to choose. Congratulations!
Thank you @lostaccount! Question - I keep hearing the term “flagship” around here, what does it mean?
the flagship is the admiral’s vessel :D… it’s the “main campus” of the public university system in your state, where most of the resources are directed, where most research is done, where top students who go to a public instate university tend to get admitted and attend, often it implies D1 sports and a very large campus, and often a good to excellent national reputation, or at least more name recognition than others.
Some States have tow or more flagships (Virginia, California, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida…)
The Ivies seem to be a reach for you.
Hey all, after a long talk with my parents last night, I decided that I will be attending Siena. I’m not going to send in the rest of my applications and I will submit my deposit as soon as I am given my official financial aid package. I couldn’t be happier with my decision either. I’ll be in the honors program, and I won’t constantly feel like I was almost rejected, and also the money is a big plus. I might not really post anymore, but I want to thank you all for your help! :x
Wait till you get all the financial aid packages before you decide not to send any application. You really want to have all the financial parameters in hand before you make your final decision.
Otherwise, CONGRATULATIONS!
Well I already sent a lot of applications, I just meant I’m not going to be sending any more. I have 6 other acceptances already so if it doesn’t work out I have other places. But thank you @MYOS1634 !
What are your 6 acceptances and how much do they cost if you count just ( tuition, fees, room, board ) - (scholarship, Grants)?
Do you have favorites?
Fordham, Scranton, Binghamton, NYIT, Stony Brook, RIT. I have all the prices on a spreadsheet.
Update:
I’m not going to say yes to Siena just yet, because I just found out I got a 2300 on the December SAT. I might try for some crazy reaches.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
With such a score and your record, no need to feel shy, go for the crazy or not-so-crazy reaches.
