Is this a good college list?

I'm about to be a senior so I need to get this locked down. What do you guys think?

High reaches:
Wesleyan U
UNC-CH

Low reaches:
Tulane
UMich
UMiami

Matches:
UT-Austin (Texas native)
Northeastern
U of Washington
UC Santa Barbara
U of Wisconsin

Safeties:
U of Oregon
Indiana U
Texas Tech
U of Houston

We’d need to know GPA, scores, & EC’s to give you any helpful feedback. UT Austin should not be considered a safety unless you are certain to be in the top 8% of your high school class.

Yes, I agree with yaupon, it depends on your academic potential, even thought the colleges you listed are great

Intended major? test scores? class rank/gpa?

yeah thats true. They’re pretty unpredictable. I looked at the stats of who got accepted from my high school and I’m in the general trend but who knows with UT.

4.04 wgpa 3.62 gpa 29 act 1950 sat
AP test: World History (4), English Language and Composition (3), Human Geography (5), Music Theory (3), Psychology (3), U.S. History (5) I’m taking 5 AP classes this year
4 yrs of orchestra (violin), chairman of my high schools battle of the bands (benefits orchestra)
NHS member
Student Ambassador to Taiwan
Soon to be an Eagle Scout
Founder and president of my schools young democrats club
I’m interning at law firm right now
state geography bee qualifier
I attend one of the best public schools in texas and probably the nation
I’m also a hispanic male

and money is not an issue

What is your class rank since you are from Texas? You list UT as a match but unless you are top 7% I think your stats are a little low. But if you are going to be in something other than business or engineering you may have a chance.

I’ll agree in your safeties. I think your low reaches are also higher than you think.

A Hispanic male who is a student ambassador to Taiwan? I sure hope that’s your essay topic!

Why Weslayan, a LAC? I would also say that if you are guaranteed at UT Austin and you like it, why do you need Oregon and Indiana, which will be expensive.

If you go to a top school in Texas, have you run this by your GC to get her thoughts?

I’m not in the top 10 and my school only ranks top 10. I checked who got accepted to UT from my school on naviance and I’m definitely in the mix but UT is very unpredictable.

Tulane seems to be pretty generous with my high school. I’ve heard mix things about who got into UMich and Umiami but it appears that they’re also fairly generous with my high school based off naviances data.

I’m fairly left-winged kid whose grown up in an one of the whitest, richest, most conservative neighborhoods of the great red state of Texas so I really wouldn’t be too psyched to attend school here unless it was UT, but I’m going to apply to some Texas schools anyways. I’m not totally sure about out of state safety schools though.

Wesleyan is just a school I came across one day and ended up loving it. UNC-CH and Wesleyan are my two unrealistic, dream schools. I do actually like the idea of going to an LAC but a lot of them are just too small (They’d have to at least be 2000) and I’m not to familiar with the less selective ones.

My GC retired half way through my high school career and we have a new one but some things have been a little unsteady. I’ll definitely run my ideas by her before I start applying.

And going to Taiwan last year was one of the best experiences of my life, so I will definitely include that in an essay!

Michigan is a high reach. Otherwise, the list looks good.
