Is this a good essay topic, or is it too boring?

In 9th grade, I tried out for the lacrosse team at my school. We ran a lot. I was completely out of shape and on the second day, I walked out of tryouts halfway through because I was so out of shape. I was really disappointed. A few days later, I joined the track team so I could become a better runner for lacrosse. I wasn't good at track at first, but I improved a LOT. Then, I ran cross country, indoor, and outdoor track until now (junior year) and will continue next year.

I have completely lost interest in lacrosse. Running is my new passion. What used to be a punishment for me is now something I love - I love to go out and run for miles. I'm one of the top runners on my team now.

How good is this essay topic?

I'm not sure if it's overdone or anything..

It’s a bit overdone but really it’s the way you write about it that counts.

It all depends on your writing. Bad writing can make a wonderful topic terrible and vice versa. That said, I think this could be a good topic as long as you don’t make it too cheesy or anything.
