Is this a good essay topic?

On a recent trip to Maui, I learned about the poverty and poor healthcare in the Hana mountains and I have since decided I want to start my own clinic up in the isolated mountains.

Its more of a dream slash heres the kinda thing I want to do when I get older. Is this ok for a common app essay?

Yes, it’s fine. I don’t think the topic matters that much. It’s what you say in your essay about the topic that matters more.

That’s true thanks. Do you have any tips for how to approach it?

Like what should my main assertion in the essay be?

I don’t like how the topic portrays you.

 • do you really want to mention your Hawaiian vacation?
 • the “wanting to save the world” stuff could be construed as naive or cliche

^Ditto ChoklitRain. This kind of an experience might come off as a little bit too commonplace, as many people might feel that way, and you said yourself it is a dream slash thing to do when you’re older. Try a more personal experience that happened for real to you and how it impacted you. I suggest getting a book of college essays that were successful, and running them over to see their common themes.

lol beccasnow when you PM’d me I thought you said you already went through the essay process last year. So what essay is this for? Stop trying to steal my essays. K thanks.

^haha, jokes, caught with his hands in the cookie jar
