I just received my acceptance letter, and this is what my financial aid package looks like:
http://i40.tinypic.com/20segsk.png
Considering that the total for each year is 55 thousand, is this a good package? I hope this doesn't come off as obnoxious, I'm just trying to see how my reward compares to the average award.

I think yours is okay. Mine is $35,597.00 and I’d still have to pay about 23k a year. I also don’t want to take out any loans but I’ll have to if I attend syracuse.

this is excellent aid.

Cross thrill: where did you get COA is $59,000/year? I think you are about 6-9,000 too high

Both of you received excellent aid…

Your package is awesome! Congrats. We only got a total of $14700 and that includes the federal loans (subsidized and unsubsidized).

What do you guys think of $26,300 a year with scholarships and aid?

I cannot believe you posted your financial package and asked it is good. Obviously you know it’s good since it is almost full tuition with much less loans than grants or scholarships. Many people, my son included received $8,000 total. We are middle class and his stats are 4.0 GPA and 34 ACT. We would be responsible for $44,000, an impossibility for middle class people.

Congratulations for your good fortune but do not ask a ridiculous question you already know the answer to.

What is your problem? I asked because even with the aid I’ll be getting, I’ll still be about 16 grand in debt each year when you factor in loans and the 8,000 left over after my aid package. Considering that my family doesn’t make a lot of money, even that will be hard to pay off, and I’m trying to decide if Syracuse is worth that debt, especially since I’ll be in much less debt if I go somewhere in-state. I don’t know if you thought I was trying to make people jealous or something stupid like that, but if you did, that’s because of your own resentment, which isn’t my problem. I was just trying to see how I compared to other applicants, so you can take your attitude somewhere else.

jlewis1193 - You have to understand that there are many of us out there in the middle class where our kids have worked hard, have super grades & SAT scores and will receive very little financial aid. You have to understand how this is unfair to many kids and how the prior poster would resent you posting your package and asking if it’s good financial aid. No one thinks you intentionally tried to be boastful, it was just a bad judgment call. Congrats and good luck with your college decision.

Well, I’m not going to go into detail because nobody cares, but I actually have very good academic/extracurricular stats. It’s not like I’m some schmuck with a 2.8 GPA and 1350 SAT who got a ton of financial aid simply because I’m an ethnic minority and my family doesn’t have a triple-digit income. My family is “middle class” as well, so I genuinely don’t know what could’ve made me receive so much money. That was my intention in posting the thread, anyway, to see how my award compared with other people’s. Not so people can come at me with their Snippiness because they have a chip on their shoulder.

You are the one with the chip. Also middle class people do not receive Pell Grants. Middle Class do not receive anything. You need to stop boasting and realize that actual middle class students do not get much. I would suggest you stop posting your financial aid.

Yes, that’s exactly it. You’re the one who gets a major attitude with me, but I’m the one with the chip on my shoulder. My family’s income drastically declined recently because both of my parents are dealing with employment issues, and our income has been reduced to a third of what it used to be. We’re a middle class family, but for the past couple of years we’ve been really struggling financially due to a number of things you know nothing about. You need to stop whining and realize the difference between someone else’s boasting and being insecure because of your own jealousy, because that’s not going to affect my or your award. I would suggest you stop responding to the thread if it makes you so mad, and move on with your life.

You know this is a good package. I’m a middle class student and my mom lost her job, I got 5,500 in loans. Don’t brag.

This is the internet. If I wanted to brag, I could’ve very easily done that. I could’ve posted a thread that said “Look at all the money I got from Syracuse! Aren’t you jealous?” without having any reservations whatsoever, being under a near-anonymous screen name. Don’t be bitter.

Jlewis you have angered many with your self centered attitude. Many people are struggling and did not receive your package. Why they gave it to you, I have no idea, but be thankful and happy and stop posting your good fortune. Better to have said, I got in with a great package, good luck to all. You did boast by actually posting what you received when prior to your posting most were saying they received $8,000 or nothing. You are not sensitive to others. I will not post anymore since I have wasted my time on you.

Be happy and enjoy Syracuse also know that many worthy and hardworking middle class families received nothing and will not be able to send their kids.

Angered “many”? I love when people do that. There is no “many,” there’s just you, and that’s because you’re an envious and whiny child who perceives a non-malicious question to be bragging, just because I got something you were hoping for. “…when prior to your posting most were saying they received $8,000 or nothing.” Whatever posts you’re talking about, I didn’t read them. And even if I had - because other people posted about receiving less, I’m not allowed to post about what I got? It doesn’t work that way. And considering your level of immaturity and rudeness, I feel no sympathy for your lack of fortune in the financial aid department.
Anyway, enjoy your life and have fun being in debt for twenty years.

There are “many” that do not post replies but thought your post to be a bit obnoxious…something you even mentioned trying to avoid…you knew it might be perceived as distasteful.

I don’t mean to butt in, but I do believe that jlewis had a valid question when opening this thread. There are many students out there that really don’t know much about the financial aid process, let alone what a “good financial aid” package looks like. Jlewis is not the only one in his situation and I’m sure other students could have the same question. I’m just sharing what I think. (I sincerely hope you guys will end this argument soon because it’s not fun seeing posters argue on CC when we’re all here to help each other out)

May you tell me what your GPA and extracurriculars are if you don’t mind me asking? I am impressed by that amount of scholarship. Good luck on college! I am still waiting for my admission decision and am really hoping to get into SU!

I agree on what february94 said! You should just end this argument and just move on. We’re seniors and should mature! I’m not blaming anyone though.
