Is this a good "Hook"?

This summer/beginning of the school year I recorded a full CD and got it released on iTunes. Will this be something that distinguishes me from other applicants, or is it just another extra-curricular to those in charge of admissions?

Does it sell?

ha, i had no idea that would be a factor! but since its september 1st release, it’s sold around 50 copies, and 20 individual tracks

whats it called? i wanna hear it

It’s an accomplishment, but typically, if you find yourself asking “Is this a ‘Hook’?”, it’s almost always not. Lots of junk sells on iTunes, sorry to say. If you had perhaps 5000 sales and validated this with solo performances in major venues such as Carnegie Hall, then you’d have a hook.

It is an EC for you and may be interesting for college admissions reps, but not a hook in the traditional sense. I guess it would have to be backed by talent. It might make for an interesting story, and it demonstrates that you have some committment and determination to get that happening.

It shows passion and perhaps there’s a story behind it you can write about in one of your essays. It’s not worthless and it’s not a guarantee – it’s a piece of a greater whole. Use it in context.

… but it’s not a “hook” in a sense that any admissions officer would say:" We need this kind of applicant!"

It’s interesting but it’s not an institutional need for any college. B est of luck to you
