is this a good idea?

Im planning on going to UIUC for mechanical enginnering. after graduation I plan on getting a job that is business related.
Is this a good idea, knowing that I much rather work in business than being an engineer?

Nothing wrong with that though you will probably have a higher starting salary as an engineer. Many engineers go into business and do well.

So it is likely that I will get a job related to business after an undergraduate engineering degree correct?

any other opinions? is anyone else doing this or have witnessed this? graduating from a good engineering program and getting into business, what type of starting salary should i expect?

I have a relative who studied engineering, but he wanted to be the boss of the engineers, not an engineer. He got a job at a US based multinational technology company in a management training position, maybe 2 year rotation then placed into one of the departments. He was smart and hardworking and advanced extremely rapidly. They paid his MBA at a top school. Now he runs a business unit doing some very high profile stuff and still a young man. But this was a very smart and focused person.

So yes, some businesses prefer someone with hard skills of engineering. Starting salaries are all over the place. Depends on what company and what position. Be sure to go for internships.

You should get a business minor and that actually opens up a lot of doors in Engineering.

Thanks for your “witnessing” of an experience, appreciate it. I was thinking about getting a minor in business, but my question is should i get it in business administration or economics, for a minor that is?
