Is this a good list?

Hey all! This is my list so far:
Kenyon
Carleton
Reed
Bryn Mawr
St.Olaf
Amherst
Boston University
Brown
Oberlin
I'm a female from rural NC with a 3.6 UW GPA, 4.4 W (NC doesn't use a ten point scale so a 92 is a B, 84 is a C, etc. Also a 4.0 is only 96+).
My ACT is 32 (36R,33E,31S,27M).
I have four years and a lot of leadership in theatre, four years of dance (competitive), and student government, tutoring, marching band, and winterguard all for one year.
I attend the NC School of Science and Math online, in addition to regular school, taking classes like International Relations and Intro to Chemical Engineering. I'll have 7-8 credits with them by graduation. My GPA is a 4.5.
I marshaled the graduation of my online school last year.
I want to study theatre and political science. Kenyon is my top choice right now and I would apply ED but I would like merit aid. Is my list okay? I've been accepted to Lenoir Rhyne but it's an extreme safety. Thanks! (I chance back)

I think if Kenyon is your top choice, maybe you should have an honest conversation with their admissions rep for your geographic area. Your stats are a bit above their “average” and they have a very strong merit aid program that is open to all applicants. Normally ED can sometimes preclude merit aid – but some of the other schools on your list are much higher ranked then Kenyon. Does anyone else have experience with Kenyon?

I’ve also demonstrated a lot of interest in Kenyon- visited, overnight, interview.

I think your list is a pretty good match to your stats. Some obvious reaches, but there’s no way every school on this list will reject you. If you go RD, you’ll have a choice to make.

I am RDing. Thanks for the tip- my only serious reach is Brown though, right? I thought I was at least like 40th percentile for Amherst.

might look at Holy Cross and Bowdoin. Holy Cross has strong theatre program.

Thanks so much! I’m trying to cut my list down though- app fees are killing me, even only having four schools that I’ll have to pay for.

One mistake students and parents often make when looking at college stats is to look only at those of accepted students. At highly competitive schools like Amherst the stats of accepted and denied students can be very close. In other words it’s possible to be solidly in the range of both accepted students and denied students at the same time.

Okay thanks! I would think I’m a pretty strong applicant most anywhere that’s not Harvard or Yale though- my other high school is really respected by most schools. Is Amherst a big reach for me?
