Is this a good schedule for a Pre-Haas Freshman?

Hi :)
So I'm an incoming freshman looking to be pre-haas with a backup econ major
this is my schedule so far:

Summer '11
Econ 1 ( already signed up, class starts next wk. Anyone have advice for it? taking it with Urbancic! )

Fall '11 ( out of all the semesters I have listed, would ESPECIALLY like the most advice on my fall classes please:) )
Math 16A
Art 23AC ( Art and Lit breadth)
L & S 40C ( History breadth)
Geog 10 ( Intl Studies breadth)

The rest are VERY tentative, except for spring'12 , which i'm pretty sure about

Spring '12
UGBA 10
Math 16B
R & C B
Breadth

Fall '12
Econ 100A/B
Breadth
Breadth

Spring '13
Stats 20/21 (trying to delay stats till the very end because I dont like math much, heard its a GPA killer, and dont want haas to see if i get a bad grade. btw, i took stats in HS and got a Solid A and 4 on the AP test, so is my delaying it really a bad idea? )

Thank you and please reply! Would love some advice!
:)

No AP credit (besides the useless AP Statistics)?

Taking Economics 100B does not help with Haas requirements. It can substitute for UGBA 101B, but it won’t count to the minimum number of UGBA units to graduate. If you major in Economics, UGBA 101B is accepted for Economics 100B.

But the Economics major does not accept UGBA 101A for Economics 100A, so if you want to double major in Economics and UGBA, you need to take the Economics version and then top up the UGBA units with an additional UGBA course.

So when i meant taking Econ 100 A/B, I meant taking one of the two classes
the reason i am going to probably take one is because its a Pre-req for Econ, and if I dont get into Haas, econ is my backup major

and yes, I have taken several AP clases, but i dont think i can actually get out of any classes that i need to take with them, except AP Lit, which I know I got a 4 or 5 on. Btw, I took Calc AB, so I cannot use that to get out of any Math classes for Haas.

Thanks for the reply ucbalumnus, and I would like to know if u have any thoughts on my fall schedule as that is what i am currently most worried about!

Art 23AC is easy but time-consuming. Like other classes in the art department they have long “studio” hours.

L&S 40C is awesome - history of Hollywood. I think the professor is still Kathy Moran?

4 on English Literature = R&C A
5 on English Literature = R&C A and B

3 or higher on Calculus AB = Math 1A (though the Math department suggests that some students who score less than a 5 are better off not moving ahead), but if you want to do Haas, you need to do one of the following sequences:

16A-16B
1A-1B
1B-53
1B-54

(i.e. not just 16B or 1B alone)

has sample Math 1A and 1B final exams that you can try to check where you stand on calculus knowledge.

The only other Haas relevant AP test is Economics; 5 on both micro and macro allows skipping Economics 1.

Note that the Economics major is also capped.

One thing to consider about the econ 100/101 series: I know quite a few pre-Haas students that begin either of the two-part sequences in the spring of their sophomore year for the same reason you’re choosing to take stats during that same semester (in an effort to protect their GPAs). Just food for thought.

@weebly thank you! yes, moran is still teaching it. just a question: do u know if art23ac actually requires one to be a good artist? i’m not really good at art, but looking at courserank i saw that it gave out a high number of As so I decided it would be good to take for breadth and AC.

@ucbalumunus yes i know that info about the math, but thanks! decided long ago that i would be taking the 16 series, lol

@basketballkid124 oooh, thank you for that! but then it looks like if i delayed those classes, i would have to take my last 3 breadth classes, and have none left over for spring. is that a bad idea, as then i would only be taking classes relavant to my major and not have any “fluff” classes?

thanks for the replies everyone! really appreciate it :)

That’s true. One option is to switch that econ class with stats. Or you can try to get into an upper-division econ elective or business elective in the fall (of sophomore year) because those may be easier (depending on your choice) compared to the econ 100 series.

what do you think your jr and sr years will be like?

if you’re that concerned about it, since you’re not double majoring or anything that requires a lot of classes, you can still take more and more breadths even after you fulfill your reqs as GPA boosters (preferred among biz majors).

i don’t really like the idea of taking 100a.
kind of pointless if you get into haas. try to slip into ugba 101a instead, or work toward electives, or finish out the breadths.

No art skills needed for Art 23AC. Just an appreciation of the media/animation, I think.
