Is this a good sign, or am I reading too much into things?

Is it considered a "good sign" if a company you applied to for an internship calls you to ask about your availability (during the internship period) and whether or not your are eligible for course credit?

It was a call from ABC in NY, and after asking me those questions, they said that they'll contact me if they want to do an interview. I know that something like this is still light years away from actually landing the job, but does a call like this mean I'm one step closer in the running? Or am I just reading too much into it, and it's just standard procedure for everyone?

It’s a fair sign. They’re not going to expend the resources to check your availability if you haven’t cleared the first hurdle or two. There could be anywhere from 3-10 people at that stage is my guess.

Best call: you’re a semi-finalist. As opposed to finalist or hiree.

If you get an interview, you’re a finalist…at least the way most places work. Again, allocation of resources.

Good luck.
