Is this a good supplement topic?

My first choice school is Boston College CSOM, and I'm worried about the supplement essay. I chose the essay about a piece of art, literature, or film that is significant to me.

I decided to write my essay about the movie Clueless. I know it's very modern and not not really a classic movie, but will it be okay for the essay? It will be a good/great essay as I'm a decent writer but I just don't want the admissions officers to dislike it just because it's a goofy movie. So basically, should I keep my Clueless essay or write about a book (probably a F. Scott FitzGerald or Ernest Hemingway novel)?

If your essay is well-written, stands out from the crowd, and shows the admissions officers something positive about yourself that your transcript does not convey, you have succeeded. I don’t think the choice of a goofy movie vs. a “classic” novel will have anything to do with it.

Write about Gatsby? Ugh, as if! Those adcoms probably read so many supplements about classical texts. They are usually just an attempt to appear sophisticated. Show your personality!

What you say and how you say it is important. A wonderful Clueless essay is likely much more effective than a mediocre Macbeth essay.

Love it. Now, rock it.
