Hi. Is it a good idea to write about an event in India back in third grade.
I was around 7-8 years old, i was at my grandparents house on top of there roof. I filled up a huge plastic bucket and dropped it off the roof. When I looked down I saw an old man on the floor. When I went to go see if he was alright, he was gone. I never found out if he just walked away or it was just my imagination. I was in India for about 2 months and this is the only thing i remember from that trip.
I have been brainstorming for about a week, this is probably the only thing i would enjoy writing about.
Also i am not the best writer, but i think i can make this a good essay.
What do you guys think? Thanks!!!
I answered on your other thread on the topic, but thought I would get the discussion going here.
This event happened 10 years ago. They’re looking for a reason to say yes to the 17 year old YOU, not the little child you were at age 7.
Remember the point behind this essay. It’s not Confession, it’s not therapy, it’s not an audition for a reality TV show. I understand how this incident might haunt you. But this essay isn’t about that. It’s about giving a college a reason to say yes to your application.
You dropped a bucket of water on an old man? Did you learn anything special from that moment? Anything can be a good essay if written well and has a good punchline.
An essay is not about a punchline… at all. Ideally it is memorable, but also revealing about the personality and interests of the applicant. Early childhood topics are tough because they want to know about you now as a young adult.
