Is this a good variety of schools?

I am currently a freshman who will be applying to boarding school for my junior year. I know I have plenty of time to look at schools, but I would like to get a good start. The following is a list of schools to which I am interested as well as each of their acceptance rates:

Phillips Exeter Academy: 15.9%
Loomis Chaffee School: 28%
Choate Rosemary Hall: 19%
Perkiomen School: 30%
Middlesex School: 19%

Do you think that these schools are too closely related and I would be seeing the same thing over and over again at each of the visits? Also, do you think that they are too selective and I should applying to a few less-selective schools? Finally, can you please recommend some boarding schools along the Eastern Coast. I already know all of the schools part of TSAO

All of the schools that you listed are very different. You wouldn’t be seeing the same thing over and over. The fact that they are selective shouldn’t really have an impact in your interest in the schools. If you want to ensure getting into a school, sure, you can apply to less-selective schools. I go to Choate, however I know some other really good boarding schools that are not part of the TSAO are Suffield Academy, Avon Old Farms (All-boy), Miss Porter’s (all-girl), The Peddie School, Berkshire, Tabor Academy, Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH)…

There’s also the ESA (HADES+ CHOATE, L’VILLE AND NMH)

Take a look to the Gidden Gems, there are great schools schools too!

From my experience in the admission process I would recomend not to apply only to selective schools and a “safety”, I applied to 5 and ended with 3 Rejections, 1 WL and 1 Acceptance (Lesson: There are no safeties)

PM me if you need help! :)

I think that list is good. it also matters about your stats like grades and etc. If you are up there loomis and perkiomen will be good safties.

It’s a good list but you should try looking in to other school. Boarding school review is really helpful. From my search I really like kent school which is in Connecticut. You should also study really hard for the ssat since you’ll be having a lot of time. Good luck :)

I hate to put it in such cold terms, but it all depends on how you measure up to the rest of the applicant pool. If your accomplishments, etc., make you a solid candidate for Exeter, then the list is probably reasonable, since Perkiomen and Loomis could be your backups. But if you are more typical of Perkiomen students, then some of the others are reach schools for you, and not one of them is a back up.

I’m ready for someone to jump on me for this, and I realize that acceptances often do not work out so linearly, but I also think it’s a realistic and safe way to plan.

I am assuming you are not a legacy or URM.
