After much thought, I decided to write my Common App essay about my love for all different kinds of music. I mean this quite literally--from classical compositions, to musicals, foreign folk music, rap, pop, country, jazz... I really do love it all.

While I've been struggling with how to approach this essay, I recently came up with an idea that I would like some feedback on.

My idea is to introduce the essay by indicating that I had a stressful day, and in order to relax I'm going to do what I usually do--listen to music. So, I put my iTunes on random, coming up with vastly differing songs. Throughout the body of the essay, I go through three or four particular songs and/or genres that come up, and whatever emotions and memories I have associated with it, with each song and genre serving as a de-stresser in a different way. The conclusion would mention (but not go into detail) of other songs, and end with the idea that I had been listening for hours without even realizing it.

I like this idea because it presents the topic in a very unique and specific way, one that I hope would be memorable to whoever reads my essay.

However, that's just me. I'd highly appreciate some feedback on this idea--as in whether you think the idea is good or bad, any modifications/specifics you would add, or if there's an entirely different format for writing the essay you want to suggest.
