So I got a letter today from UChicago informing me that I've been admitted to the Class of 2013. Cool you say, eh? There's only one catch: I didn't apply early. So I double checked my Common Application, and indeed, I applied Regular Decision.

Oh my. This is pretty unique. When did you send in your app? Also I would check the undergraduate student log-in. It should also say your decision there too. And of course call them asap

On the website it still says the following:

"You will be able to check your application credentials on this site until Saturday, December 6. After that date, please call the Office of College Admissions at 773.702.8650 if you have questions about your application.

Soon, you will be able to check your admissions decision on this site!"

I would call. Are they open? If the website isn’t showing your decision letter or the opening page with a pic of o’niel (sp?) saying 'Welcome Admitted Students" than I would call immediately! And tell us what happens

I had exactly that thing on my page, and I definitely applied EA (and was admitted, fwiw; when I was admitted, it changed over to Ted O’Neill smiling at me, as Machiavelli describes). Sounds like they thought you applied EA and not RD??

I would definitely, definitely call them ASAP and see what’s going on. :D

Thanks for the help so far, guys. Thing is, it’s Saturday. They’re closed.

I don’t know if it means anything, but my friend who applied Early Action got his letter and it was dated December 15th, which is the normal notification date for Early Action. Mine is dated December 23rd…

I guess all you can do it is write your regional counselor ASAP. They should have a message box things that says “Send a message to your counselor” on the log-in page. Do that right now and than wait until Monday to call.

I just read on another thread that RDers don’t receive an electronic notification. Just thought that was interesting, because it would suggest that if UChicago still views me as a RD applicant, then that’s why I didn’t receive my decision online.

That still doesn’t explain why I got it nearly four months early, though…

Tomadon, the same thing happened to me four years ago–when I called to see what was up, they just said that they had made a mistake in notifying me, although they did admit that I had been admitted. This happened in January, but at least it demonstrates that the admissions office has a history of doing this–just call to clear things up.

or maybe they’re just prophets or time-travelers. They either predicted that you would be admitted and sent you the letter early(I’m not sure why they would do that), or they read your application in the spring then went back in time and sent it to you. Either way it’s pretty weird. Mysterious place the U Chicago is.
