actually, you have a point. Only the endowed colleges(CAS, AAP, Engineering, and HA) have sent out likely letters, not the contract colleges(ILR, HumanEco, CALS)...

I got the likely letter!!!! yay!!! It's my first (haha and probably only) one!

Umm.... also mentioned that I'm a finalist for the scholarship thingy; I can't remember the name right now... I'm on cold meds =)

and Engineering

and from Oregon

and I'm a girl, Asian, but no invite to the diversity thingy

and sorry my word choice sucks right now. I bet it's the cold meds

Is it only 10 to 15 percent of those who are accepted? How many do you think get likely letters?

College of Arts and Sciences. Hispanic likely letter received today, if that helps. Good luck to anyone who didn't get a letter yet.

Barq45, CALS and ILR are rolling, and they can send out early acceptances so that they don't need to send likely letters. My D was accepted to CALS early March. I don't know about HumEc, but it is a very small college.

See

for those acceptances

BTW, Hotel is also rolling.

my letter was different it was like
"Dear ....,
I am writing to let your know how much the Cornell Engineering Admissions Committee enjoyed reading your application. Your academic and personal achievements are outstanding and, although the Ivy League schools won't notify students of their admission decisions untill the end of the month, it may help with your planning to know that [bold] you are very likely to be admitted to Cornell[/bold]

and other stuff about Society of Women Engineer... I am Asian girl... if that helps...
I am guessing I am in?

May I ask if you are a potential woman engineer? I wonder if these likely letters are for the women engineers.

Any internationals with likely letters?

yeah I think I applied for EE or Mech E.
my SAT is only 2100

I do think the letters are for minority females.. since the field is so unrepresented.. I got two letters ,, the one form Cornell admisions saying I will be admitted and the other one form Cornell Eng that states the Engineering Dept enjoyed reading my application and will likely be admitted. They came two days apart. I believe these are out now because the SWE (Societyof Women Eng) is having something soon at Cornell.. So if I were not an URM and female going into Engineering I would not worry about these letters at all. The majority will come out as planned at the end of month.. By the way,, I also got an "early" letter from Wash U saying I am admitted- so I believe they are trying to get the few females there are going into Eng to want to come to their schools..Esp minority women..

Higherground-you have a lot going for you. Try to negotiate merit aid between these schools. I hear both Wash U and Cornell are wonderful. A hearty congratulations! Lucky you!

I am from Wisconsin!

You can look up my stats on some of my other posts, but I also got these "likely letters" (or whatever they are called) from Stanford, Duke and Wash U.

wow i'm actually not feeling very confident about my likely letters / DHW and Cornell Days invites now.

mine didnt say "very," just "likely," but they did say they were very impressed, blah blah... i still think I'm probably in but i dunno....any reassurances here?

Congrats guys! I'm soooo happy for y'all!
It seems that these letters are geared towards minorities. I applied to the engineering school as a minority female. Does this mean I could be getting some bad news soon?

Have any NON-minorities gotten CAS likelies?

Also, some of you need to stop freaking out over the wording. If you got a letter, you are in unless you turn into a serial killer within the next two weeks. I don't care whether it says "very likely" or "likely." The colleges not affiliated with NY cannot send out actual admissions/acceptances because it violates Ivy League policy. Please stop analyzing every word. It's kind of obnixious, esp. to those of us who haven't gotten ANYTHING, much less a letter saying we're as close to "in" as you can get. And to end that, congrats!

haha alright good point, theprez, my b.

Space Ranger 454 -- I probably wouldn't worry too much, seeing how stats show that most people admitted dont get a letter. I dunno, what do I know? I think all the speculation on this site is funny, tho the advice of others is reassuring to ease the nervousness.

i am not a urm and got a L.L. for engineering and the SWE thing.

theprez: i think lots of non-minorities are getting CAS likelies for the tanner dean's scholars program. it's not a program geared toward minorities and although they do have a weekend event on-campus, it's not one of those "multicultural open house" things.

i got a CAS likely and i'm biracial; not sure where that counts in the "minority" list. but i wasn't invited to washu's minority weekend, if that counts for anything. actually, i was totally waitlisted by washu, lol...

i got "very likely" letter too...
i applied to engineering major and it also says that i'm a finalist for some engineering scholarship..

Mdcissp,
Thanks fpr your kind words and I will definetly try for Merit Aid... did u hear yet.. wishing you the best of Luck!!!
