Is this a little too much?

Will volunteering at 6 different hospitals/clinic and tutoring at middle schools with 3-4 hours/week in each activity actually make someone look superficial? Could it possibly hurt in admissions at elite colleges?

Depends. At “elite universities” it doesn’t matter what activities you do, it matters what you’ve managed to contribute to them and how they have changed you to make you a better candidate for admission.

That’s the thing though…there’s hardly any space to describe the activities on the Common App (less than 100 characters). How can an admissions officer truly tell who contributed/gained from the activity and who didn’t?

Speaking simply by how it appears, would the 6 hospitals/clinics at 3-4 hours/week look like resume padding?

^^^

True…HYPs are looking for people who start organizations, significantly improve organizations, etc. They’re looking for the future “movers and shakers” in the world.

bump. anyone else?

Why not start a group at one of the clinics promoting teenagers/friends to volunteer at the hospital. You can organize special events and charities and stuff.

Just something I wish I had done but I’m a senior now =/

Maybe, Maybe not.
