I’m currently a freshman and I’ve been thinking a lot about my schedule for my sophomore year. What do you guys think about this schedule?
Honors World History
English 3-4
Honors Integrated Science 3-4
Honors Chemistry
Honors Geometry
Honors Advanced Algebra
Spanish 3-4
Would this be at all manageable work-wise? How hard are these classes usually? How did you guys do in them?
Thanks!
I think it would be fine. Are ap classes offered at your school? If so you should definitely take one. Human geography or environmental science
Sophomore classes are pretty easy, at least compared to junior/AP classes.
Why aren’t you taking honors English? You might as well if you’re taking honors in all other subjects.
Looks manageable to me. (Note that I’m saying that without having taken all the classes listed.)
From my experience, Honors Chemistry is a little math-heavy but shouldn’t be too horrible especially if you like the subject. There has been some overlap with the math I’m learning in Algebra 2/Advanced Algebra (not honors), and since you’ll be taking that it should be fine.
I also took Honors Geometry last year in 8th grade (dumb 2-year advanced math program :() and it was extremely difficult for me but that might have just been the teacher, because friends this year taking Honors Geo have found it a lot easier to maintain an A. Cross your fingers for a good teacher haha, and luckily it’s not like any other math classes.
From what my friends have told me, Honors Algebra 2/Advanced Algebra is really fast-paced and in-depth and some students struggle, but for the most part it seems that the students that double up on math by taking 2 math classes in one year do well. Like I said, I’m in regular, and for the most part it’s easy, but Honors is much more in-depth. Honestly I regret not taking Honors, but it’s up to you. I think you should do it.
I noticed that another commenter suggested taking Honors English too, but in my opinion that shouldn’t be necessary if you don’t enjoy the subject or if you’re in regular currently. Unless you want to, of course.
I can’t say about Spanish since I’m not in that high a level of Spanish yet and my school doesn’t have Integrated Science. (There is an Integrated Chemistry Physics at my school, but I’m guessing that that’s different since ICP is for people who don’t plan on taking full-year Chem or Physics.) I haven’t taken World History yet either; I’ll be taking that as a sophomore too.
I know that 5 honors classes is a lot, but I think it’d be manageable. Again, I haven’t taken all of those classes as noted above, but I think you’d still be setting yourself up for success. Good luck!
I too would recommend Honors English. A strong grasp of English will be necessary regardless of subject, especially if you hope to take AP classes. Even if you don’t like to read and write, if you want to go to college, you’ll need the strongest reading and writing skills possible and it takes sustained effort over years. (it’ll also pay off when you take the sat because EBCR I’d very very hard to improve, basically it’s designed to test skills built over three years - it’s much easier to improve math than English and you don’t want to find junior year that you have no shot at our favorite colleges because you took the easy way out in English sophomore and junior year.)
Everything else is good.
