To go from a 2000 to a 2300? If it makes any difference, I took the SAT over a year ago and did minimal studying. Here's the breakdown of my scores: CR-660 M-640 W-700. Also, I would like to add that my essay was horrid (I didn't finish and got a 7) and plan on improving it.

You can probably get an 800 in writing and 700+ on math/CR. I would say you can get a 2200+. A 2300 is still realistic although it would require extensive studying. The essay can be easily gamed. Good luck!

Of course it is realistic. First try I took on the exam, I received 1980. Eventually bumped it to my goal line of 2200+. It is possible, and never tell yourself it isn’t. If you ever need help, I’ve posted a short “guide” on SAT things for now

what year are you in right now?

It’s realistic, however, it’s difficult. Personally, when I tutored SAT, I found that when a student focuses on one area, the another area usually suffers. In other words, if you focus time on Math to bring up to 700 (640 really is not an impressive score), then your verbal may go down from 660. The attempt to balance both to 700’s is not an easy feat. It’s do-able - yes, and students have done it - but not something to be taken lightly.

I’m intentionally ignoring W as most admissions tend to do similarly. Having that in 700’s is nice, but I wouldn’t be very impressed if a student’s application showed 710 on Writing and 650 on CR as opposed to 710 on CR and 650 on W (latter is much better and shows more potential for the applicant).

@gensis- I’m a college freshman trying to transfer.

@grayfalcon89- I’m not really concerned about the W either, i just don’t want the adcoms to see a 7 on my essay lol. As for the M and CR score, i suppose i should focus more on the math because it is so low and I feel a lot less comfortable with it than the other sections.

when i first took the SAT i got an 1860 (i dont remember the breakdown), but i got the blue book along with several other prep books and just hit it hard. i took a full SAT every two days for about two months. the important thing for me was to review every single question i got wrong and really know why i got it wrong (which is what a lot of people need a tutor to do for them). but i ended up raising it to a 2270. so it def is possible for you. i think it just requires intensity.

what you must realize is that when you are at about the 2200+ range missing one or two questions is the difference between a 2200 and a 2300. whereas the difference between a 1900 and a 2000 could be as much as 3 or 4 questions. to get those top scores really means attention to detail, time management, and honestly a bit of luck. i got a 2350 on a practice test, but a 2270 on the day.

best of luck though and if you need other study help, PM and i can give you more advice

Honestly, it would be very difficult for a college freshman. I know you want me to encourage you, but that’s a very difficult goal for you, as you should be above that by now. Sorry. You could always try.

Do you even need SAT to transfer? In CA, all you need is GPA to transfer to UCSD and stuff.

Usually a transfer student still has to submit SAT/ACT scores and high school grades if the person is transferring after only one year. The goal is certainly possible (from 2000 to 2300). I rose my sophomore PSAT from a 203 to a 2360 on the real SAT junior year this year. I would say that the Blue Book should be sufficient for raising your score.

you may start with memorizing basic level parallelism concepts…

[my essay was] and [who?] [why?] [plan]

[past simple] and [present simple]=wrong

Thus, a 2300 is not a realistic goal for you.

If ur dedicated, u can, but I think its a waste of time… SAT won’t matter that much for transfer. IMO, from 2000 to 2300 is kinda long shot…

Suleyman, stop being a d!ck.

Definitely a possible goal.

suleyman u are teh funnies

if there was a ■■■■■■■■ section of the sat, you would get 800 with no prep!

I see nothing “funny” in correcting one’s mistakes.

Yes, that is a realistic goal.

suleyman, no one needs your advice if you’re going to be unnecessarily negative and condescending.

to the OP, how long do you have before you have before you take the SAT

I had never imagined that any person could be that condescending, demeaning, and defensive. Suleyman, you’ve done the impossible, and then some.
