OKAY so ever since I got to college I knew I wanted to study abroad. But I also knew I wanted to do it over the summer and not miss a whole semester at my school. I was looking at the programs offered this coming summer, and none of them really interest me enough to apply. So, I guess my question is....I wanted to study abroad not at all for the studying just for the abroad part. Do you think it's reasonable to go to (Western) Europe by myself this summer for a month or so? I want to more than anything, but it just sounds crazy and out of my league (first time traveler)

What do you guys think?

If you're not the one paying for it, this should be a discussion you have with parents/guardians. If you want to go abroad, then by all means, go abroad, but you have to have a reason and some sort of money to get you there, get you back, and keep you moving.

Tons of students go backpacking in Europe. Usually going by yourself is the poor idea - find a travel buddy or two. It's not a bad idea at all as long as you can afford it.

Have you considered doing some volunteering abroad, maybe?

Rick Steves' books are the most amazing things ever for Europe travel, FYI. Get yourself a Through the Backdoor and you're set.

wait..so why not just go to Europe for vacation?
