Is this a sign?

Himom, I guess the reason is that at some schools the housing is in outlying areas or hotels leased by the university. Many families are more protective of their daughters in terms of living close to and even on campus. I’ve known families for which this was a deal breaker.

I wasn’t happy with remote housing for my boys for reasons other than safety. Statistically, I don’t know if the sex of the student would make a difference; I’m must guessing as to why parents might be more protective of their females in terms of safety.

Yea, the U our kiddos went to did put some kids up in a hotel --they were considered lucky, since they got maid service included in the price of their housing. MOST of the kids still got their 1st or 2nd choice at that U & everyone did get SOME housing that was safe and pretty close to campus. Sometimes things happen in inscrutable ways but work out anyway for the students & families. I guess I couldn’t see the value in plunking down money for several campuses knowing I was guaranteed to lose it–we are all different about how we assess risks and benefits and how much we can or will pay for them. :)

Well, I wouldn’t do it at “several” places, HImom. But if the school is one of two top candidates and you can afford it, it can’t hurt.

I guess I am holding off on deposits. My daughter just informed me today she is still considering the wonderful private 40 minutes away that she said was too close!! She wants to attend a 2nd tour for accepted students in 11 days :)

Good luck to her, keetermom!
