I'm taking AP Psychology next year, and I found out that I have a teacher that, when I was in her choir class, threatened my grade because I didn't want to miss a class that I was struggling in for an in-school rehearsal. I've also heard that she's moody, and if she's stressed out because of chorus, she just won't teach that day (even in like, May, when it's close to the AP exam). I recently made an appointment with my counselor so I can see if it's easily changed, but do you think that it's petty? I'm taking 4 AP classes, so the way I see it, if I can avoid the headache, I should try to. But I'm afraid my counselor will think that it's just a waste of his time or something.

AP Psychology is not a “core” class, so you can live without it, as long as you replace it with something worthwhile. E.g., don’t don’t swap it for being a TA.

@WasatchWriter Reading over my question, I wasn’t clear about this, but I meant that I wanted to switched my teacher out, not the class. There’s 1 other AP Psych teacher in the school.

*switch, not switched. It’s summer, I can’t type.

Oh. Well, if the other teacher is a good teacher, do it. It’s not a dumb reason.

If this is a problem that other students share with you and have told other teachers/counselors, then I’m sure your counselor wouldn’t mind switching you over to the other teacher. The only problem I see is that because you’re taking four AP class, it might be difficult to rearrange your classes, but your school is probably different than mine so. Anyway GL.

If you can switch, then switch, but make sure to not say anything rude about the teacher to your counselor even if that teacher isn’t the best - your counselor will write one of your college recs.

Thats not dumb at all. You have the right to a good teacher, seize it!

I think that’s perfectly reasonable. At my school you are allowed to switch teachers/drop a class if you’ve had the same teacher before and believe it wouldn’t be in your best interest to have them again.

No, it’s not a stupid reason, although at my school they only let you switch teachers if you’ve had this teacher before and you failed his or her class. It’s definitely worth a shot!

@swimmygirl123 Ah, that is a very good point…
