My son has been "selected" by the USA Scholarship Services to apply for an Engineering Scholarship program. Supposedly you can receive up to $7500, depending on which scholarship program "best corresponds to your educational needs." In addition, you have to pay a $27 processing fee. They say students who fail to qualify for at least $1000 "may" be entitled to a full refund of the fee. This all sounds phony to me, but I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks!

I've been applying to our local scholarships and I've done an engineering specific scholarship as well, and none of them have required 'processing' fees. I say scam.

I am pretty sure that if you have to pay to apply for a scholarship, it isn't legit.
When in doubt, google usually can clear it up .

Thanks for your replies.

I should have googled it to begin with. Here is some of what I read:

The Better Business Bureau in Washington, D. C. , where the company is located, listed USA Scholarship Services as having an unsatisfactory record. The bureau still has unresolved complaints on file regarding the company, said Edward Johnson, the bureau's president and CEO. He noted the bureau has received 983 inquiries about the company in the past 12 months.

Evidently, they tend to send xeroxed copies of old information.

Wait, is this the same as the USA funds scholarship that awards $1500?
