Today I got an email containing my financial aid package and I have no scholarships, grants, work study, nothing. My cost of attendance is $11,379 and they give me an EFC of $11,486 which doesn't really make sense to me b/c the COA is lower. Then they give me $8,629 in parent loans and $2,750 in unsubsidized loans per semester. (Also the total of the loans per semester equals exactly $11,379 the COA). I'm assuming that I'm supposed to reduce these since the amt. of loans is way more than COA but I'm not really sure, I'll talk to my parents and a counselor after spring break has ended to figure all this out. But I was really surprised that I didn't get any scholarship or grant of some sort, I wasn't expecting a lot just something b/c at all the other schools I've been accepted to have given me a merit scholarship or grant of some sort. However these schools cost more and have less people than UT so I'm guessing there's less competition. What I really want to know is if it's typical to not get a lot of aid from UT Austin? My FAFSA EFC is about $23,000 but I don't think that's supposed to have any basis on merit scholarships and such? I also sent in my application for UT on time to be considered for scholarships and such in case anyone's wondering and I have applied for outside scholarships and the texas exes one. I was wondering if anyone could describe their aid package so I could compare it to mine?

woo!
I got basically the same thing, minus a thousand dollar scholarship.

my COA is 11570/sem = 23140 year
this is my finan. aid package.
i'm not doing any work study or loans

james a bush scholarship, 1250 per semester
pell grant, 2675 semester
university tuition grant- 1450 per semester
Texas grant - initial - 3040 per semester
federal academic competitiveness rant - 375 semester
state top 10% scholarship- 2000$ fall semester

all this adds up to 10790 fall/ 8790 spring = 19580 year

I also have a 3000/semester scholarship from geosciences and i have an early graduate scholarship for 2000 or 3000
but they didnt know this so my university tuition and/or texas grant might change some

Where I'd you Find this out? Email or the ut eid page?

I Hope UT

If your financial aid has been processed, it can be found on the CASH page. The link is toward the bottom of this page. I believe you will need an upgraded UT EID to access the info though.

FINANCIAL AID

I thought we upgrade your Id at orientation... I have to wait till then?

if your financial aid is processed, you'll see it on your status check page and they will send you an email.

i remember when you were accepted, they asked you to upgrade your EID password. I think when you get to orientation, you have to upgrade it again there.

henryj223 is correct. You have to change your eid once when you are accepted (this one doesn't require you to show up in person) and then again before you are allowed access to your cash account and other confidential information (this one does require you to either show up in person with proper photo id or do it through the mail). My understanding is that you do NOT have to do this in-person "upgrade" of the eid in order to see your financial aid award. I've been told that most people do the final upgrade at orientation time, but since those lines are very long, if you can, you should try to do it earlier. I forgot the office on campus that does it, but it's on the UT website.

Just to clarify... The EID will not change, its security level will be upgraded.

The EFC and cost of attendance are not related. The cost of attendance is how much it will cost to go there and the EFC is how much they will expect you to pay. If the EFC is higher, then that means you're expected family contribution covers the entire cost of attendance. Nothing has to add up and it's fine if they aren't equal.

I was just wondering...do university scholarships come w/ the financial aid package or do they come separately?

I do not know how it works for university wide scholarships, but for engineering specifically it states that the engineering scholarships do not show up on the page. But engineering does send scholarship notfication directly to students (my friends and I already got it).

Do you have to pay your acceptance fee before you can see the offer?

just curious debate, what were you and your friend's stats and how much did you get from engineering?

I didn't get into honors so is there any chance I may get a scholarship from engineering?

Scholarships are a part of your financial aid package and if you receive them after your initial package your financial aid package will be evaluated, and it's highly likely your grants or work study will be reduced by that amount.

That aid package is incredibly typical from UT--they just don't have much grant money to give because the state doesn't give them much extra money. My EFC was 30k and I got the same offer.

I just checked the CASH website and it says I need to submit an Institutional Verification Form as well as a copy of my parents' tax return. I'm not sure how long that has been up there, I haven't checked in a month or two. Does this mean that my financial aid offer won't be processed until i send these in? Will sending them in this late affect my potential to receive aid?

So you have to pay your $300 before you find out your financial aid? Is that when you upgrade you EID?

Not sure what $300 you are talking about, but if you mean "do you have to enroll first?", the answer is no. Almost everyone reviews their financial aid before making a decision to attend or not (unless you are one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to worry at all about how much it costs).

Mine still says processing, but all my stuff was turned in before the New Year. Weird?

Deenz if you're talking about your finaid being processed then I think you should get it soon. I filed FAFSA in early feb. and got an aid package a few days ago, and I also got my acceptance to UT early jan. after applying late december. so that should give you an idea?
