Obviously, I was rejected on Friday, and am completely devastated. I'm not in my top 10%, but my grades show great growth over time, and I have the hardest schedule (13 AP's) in my school's history. 8 of which are senior year, currently have scored four 5's and one 4. 3.8 UF GPA. 2150 SAT. Reasonable extracurriculars, again, I emphasized in my essay, trying to break into sports at like 14 was nearly impossible, then found my niche and had to picket the school board to become a team. Mmmm, adequate community service, 2 part time jobs. W, F, instate.

Attended UF Outstanding High School Scholars Program over the summer, I'm the only person I know of that's ever been to it, and rejected. Unfortunate because I really had no feeling toward the school until they invited me, stayed over there, and I just fell in love with it.

I want to go up in person, but I don't know when. Supposedly, they're closed on weekends, and I can't miss too much school. (although it seems like my work is for nothing at this point) Any advice on when to do this? Do you guys think I have a shot at appeal? I know the reconsideration rate is astoundingly low, but I just need to at least try. I don't understand this at all. :(

yeah i was looking to appeal also do you know the process of how to do it. say that this is your dream school and kiss ass. It may not be what you want to do but if you want to get in it may be the only option.

Contact admissions on Monday and find out about the form to file an appeal. Remember the only grounds for an appeal is that either they overlooked something in your admissions file or you had a a major event in your life, whether it be health or some other situation which caused great difficulty and effected your academic record which the UF Admissions staff is not aware of. There is a short time window to appeal probably early March and you need to supply documentation which substantiates the basis of your appeal. According to postings on CC from last year there were about 300 or so appeals and about 10-15 were granted.

Your appeal most likely won’t get you anywhere unless, as mentioned above, there was something fundamentally crucial that you didn’t include in your original application. There are plenty of people similarly qualified (if not more) who also didn’t get in. It’s a game of numbers and not everybody is going to get in. There will be people with lower stats than you that get in and people with higher stats that don’t, and it’s just the way it is – and that’s with any university.

UF admission process does not make any sense - I know people who were rejected from Uf but admitted to the top 10 schools! Also know great IB students who were rejected - No logic at all. While UF is a great school and has amazing students, it certainly is not in the top 10 or even in the top 50 for that matter. There is a great school for everyone - Gator nation is not the only choice people - don’t despair. :)

I don’t really have a major event like those described, I just feel like I’ve grown a lot, and really pushed ridiculously hard…Idk. And I want it so bad.

I don’t know if anyone will be able to advise me on this, and I plan on asking admissions, but here’s another potential option-

IF I pass all of my AP tests this year, that’s 54 credit hours (by UF standards, yes, I’m creepy and did the math) plus 8 from a CC (both A’s) So if I took two science courses over the summer, I would have an AA…Can I apply for transfer? By this March deadline, anticipating these credits, or would I wait? Would my GPA only come from these four college classes? Aghh theoreticals.

Listen folks it may not seem like it now. But trust me when I tell you “everything happens for a reason” if you didnt get accepted to UF. Your attitude MUST BE: it is their LOSS.

Now it is time to pick yourselves up by the boot straps and start considering your options. Whether it be your local CC, UCF, USF or FSU. These schools will be better because you are there and you will love it. You will make new friends and love your college experience.

Dont let a random admission process get you down. You know you deserved it so just put it behind you.

We all know students that qualified that were turned down and others that did not qualify that were admitted. So FORGET about it and move on.

Life is too short to dwell on the negative. Now is the time to remind yourself that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If it is truly your dream school, take that one last shot and appeal. You can’t lose anything, as you’ve already been rejected. Littlekit, you have great stats, so it is certainly worth it to give it your best, last attempt. If the answer is still no, you can move on knowing you did everything you could. There are plenty of great schools out there, and I wish you the best wherever you end up.

@justwaiting thank you I really hope so. I want them to at least take a harder look at my app. I don’t have perfect EC’s but I guess I was a “late bloomer” in school, and did all I can to make up for it. I think scores and schedule prove I’m capable, and I REALLY just want it.

@gator, I know, I think I’ll give it this one last shot though, why not. I hate seeing my friend with a 25 ACT get in and go to UCF because she never really cared about UF. I am still getting excited for where ever I end up, regardless, FSU has a great business school, and better school colors lol

But as others have stated you should think of it as their loss. Even if you go to FSU, you can probably transfer out after one year or maybe even a semester. Just work hard wherever you go and you’ll be successful.

I’m also super excited to rush a sorority however, so transferring after a year would kill that for me I don’t know, I’m sure FSU would be amazing, I think I’ll be visiting soon and stop on the way to speak to someone at UF about the chances of entering this Fall with a potential AA, or trying to appeal. Thanks you guys :)

I wouldnt wait I would call tomorrow morning and start the converstion like this:

Good morning I am calling because it is obvious that there must have been a mistake when admissions reviewed my application. Please help me to get them to reopen my file.

By doing this you are telling them that #1 you know your grades and credentials were more than adequate and #2 you are asking for help. Most people want to help people that ask for help.

Just in case any of y’all check back, I have been admitted as AA transfer for Fall 2012. A’s in two CC classes and 5’s on enough AP tests on the last day applications are accepted and I’ve actually saved two years of college because of the initial rejection. Good luck to everyone else and NEVER give up if you want it!
