Is this a way to sneak into a top school?

Alright...if I apply to schools like Princeton, Harvard, Duke etc.. and emphasize COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING as my definite major..can it increase my chances?

In comparison to other "computer science candidates", and from what I know so far, I think I have better stats that them etc...

Am I being stupid here or is this possible?
Can someone shine some light here?

it wont help...its extremely tough to get into those schools period. it doesnt matter what major u put down....it MAY help but if it does it will certainly not be any major factor...and also how would u kno that ur more qualified than other comp science eng candidates? u dont kno the stats and EC and stuff of the hundreds of people who apply uner comp science eng major

I agree with what moose66 said, but I know that Princeton's engineering school is quite weak, so they are kind of desperate to boost their program with excellent students. Who knows if this factors in to the admissions process. My friend was rejected from Penn and MIT for engineering, but got into Princeton engineering. Who can really tell ;)

Are you serious?

Like tchaikovsky said...lol

I think I might try this for top schools like Princeton...I'd crack up if i got in..

In reality I wanna be a doctor but if I can sneak in as a Computer Science candidate and then do only a minor in it and a major in biochem then that would be worth it

Uh, Princeton has the #1 engineering program in the US.

Where did you get that ranking? For computer engineering, you can check out this: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/engineering/phd/enps05_brief.php

I think so esp. if you're going for Upenn!

Yup, from what I know..PRINCETON ENGINEERING IS WEAK....

How many agree with using this as a "tactic" for gettin into a top school..? (POLL)

actually the real way to sneak into top colleges is to put down nursing. If you are a decent student, they'll probably want you in. Then switch majors.

NURSING?
are you serious....is that even a major?
cut the crap
i would never sink THAAAAAT low...

I think nursing is a school at Penn? But it might be hard to switch schools...

actually from the college apps that I've looked at you can put down "Computer Science" as the prospective major...but when u get admission im guessin u can switch ur major as u pick ur first year classes etc..?

can someone clear this for me?

What if you have an so-so average (86) and you put down Computer engineering for Princeton... Can one really get in?

No, one will really not get in.

But it will be as hard as hell in some of the schools, such as Penn, from Nursing to CAS or Wharton is a bit hard.

And besides Adcom will reject you if they suspect you will be doing that in the future.

I heard that somewhere on CC that Princeton had good engineering or something.

Or was it astrophysics? Something like that. Sorry for giving bad info.

An 86 average completely sucks for an ivy + top schools etc..

I think I found my way into a top school...more like the Holy Grail to college lol

If you do not have solid grades and scores and if you dont have amazing ECs to make for that.

Then you have no shot at an ivy-caliber school.

Okay then evaluate this:
top 3%
95 gpa
toughest courseload possible
5's on all AP's
2250+ SAT
750~ on SAT IIs
Decent EC's with board positions etc..

and the person applied for computer science engineering BSE at PRINCETON...do u think he has a DECENT SHOT?
