I also play chess and won 2 tournaments between city schools

Math team member but haven't won anything

Over the summer I have an internship at a hospital

Won some city awards

I think this is pretty good but some people on here have scores and stuff much better than me,
So am I in the range for dartmouth and columbia, or do I need to take the SATI again or something (crazy)?

you need better ECs. the city stuff doesn't really matter; just as regionals don't matter. state is where you should start putting stuff on your app.

state is where i should START putting stuff on my application?

so you mean i have to win a state soccer championship, or be a state chess champion to get into a good school?

i hope you're joking

my internship was over 200 hours and very serious by the way...i am doing the stuff i like for my enjoyment not because i need to get into university

oh at one time with the USACO i was like #1 for most problems solved in a 2 week period...there's a national award...except it means almost nothing compared to the other stuff ive done outside school

they key is commitment, not status. sure state & national awards are phenomenal, but they are no more of a requirement than a perfect SAT score.

what is important is that you make sure dartmouth knows how intense that 200 hr internship was.

you have the stats, your ECs are acceptable...now just show them you are unique and that you do unique things.

...but dartmouth is pretty reachy for anybody...make sure you have schools a bit lower on the prestige-o-meter in mind for this fall.
