Is this an acceptable question to ask during a visit?

So I just googled to review some questions to ask on campus tours as I will be going on some this week.

First site to come up was:
<a href="http://www.myfootpath.com/CollegePrep/campus_questions.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.myfootpath.com/CollegePrep/campus_questions.php</a></p>

everything looks predictable until....

"Questions to ask an admissions officer- Am I likely to be admitted?"

Is this a valid and acceptable question? I just have difficulty imagining why anyone would ask such a thing. Am I the only one?

Why not ask? The tour guide probably has no idea, but certainly, stop in the admissions office and ask just that.

I feel like that's kind of like going on a job offer and telling them how much money you want to make. It just seems like kind of a no-no to me.

I think a more acceptable question would be something like, "What do you look for in applicants?" Something like that.

The thing is that any college will give you the run around. It depends on XYZ and our admissions are holistic, etc etc

You're not going to get an answer.

I highly doubt it.

I mean There is almost no chance that they will know who you are and even if they did I doubt they would be willing to tell...

if u want to be humorous to the officer/tour guide, go ahead. BUt dont expect to get any useful information out of any of em, as they either wont tell you or dont know

HisGaceFillsMe, that's exactly what I was thinking

Fencersmother, have you personally asked and had gotten a helpful or accurate answer?

Call me Kristi :)

Yeah, I don't think asking that would really help you much, and if anything it might even hurt you. I strongly advise against that particular question.

You could use the question suggested by HisGraceFillsMe, but cut off the expected "holistic admissions" response by saying something like: "I know admissions officers consider the application holistically, but what types of students do you tend to accept?"
