@wampum: what did you find? I got the same letter as you, and wondering the same thing as you… thursday cannot come fast enough! lol

@wampum: I got the same thing in the mail as you (pink envelope, grad date, etc). Just from looking at the “Woo!” thread, I see one of them has their current location as Philadelphia and the other is legendofmax, who has posted on a bunch of Penn threads.

let me try this again.

Penn’s financial aid office does not talk to the admissions office. SFS has no idea whether someone got in, but it is in everyone’s best interests for the office to be prepared to make a financial aid offer to all applicants since Penn is a need-blind admissions school. Getting a letter from SFS relates to admissions as much as the “parking brake” light relates to your gas tank: are they loosely connected? Yes, but one has nothing to do with the other.

You, along with everyone else, will find out your admissions decision when they come out online. You have as much chance as anyone else, but you are no more likely to gain admission than you were two weeks ago, before you got any letters from an irrelevant division of an enormous university.

hahaha we’re all just too hopeful!

@chrisw: You definitely know what you’re talking about especially since you went to Penn! And I love your brake light/gas tank analogy:) Thanks for clearing up so much confusion for us, Penn applicants (hopefully future Quakers)!

If it means nothing and they prepare financial aid packages for everyone regardless, then why hasn’t my daughter received that letter, when we applied for financial aid but also never submitted the 2011 tax returns??? :(

@ Splokey: yeah exactly. I have 2 friends at school who didn’t send in their 2011 tax returns and didn’t receive the letter. I just don’t know what’s going on. I guess there is nothing left to do but wait.

i talked to someone who received that SAME EXACT letter from SFS two years ago a few days before RD decisions were released, and he was denied admission to Penn. so it means nothing regarding admissions.

@letsgoo …

okay; well - do you know anyone who didn’t submit their tax returns and didn’t get the letter but DID get admitted ? please give me some hope…
LOL !

Reasons she hasn’t received any letters:

Sometimes the postal service takes a long time. What may arrive to me today may not arrive until next week for someone just a zip code over.

SFS is comprised of humans who are going through tens of thousands of financial aid applications, including those of around 17,000 current students. It is entirely possible they sent out some one day and others in subsequent days.

Also because SFS is comprised of humans, it is possible that they missed your daughter’s incomplete application. All sorts of mistakes can happen because we are all human.

Upenn Core Curriculum requirements - does it require PE for 2 semesters? Columbia core requires 2 semesters of PE. So, can someone here confirm this requirement for UPenn?

Penn does not require gym for graduation. Cornell does (I think they have a swim test?) and I guess Columbia does too (based on the info you provided).

I got this tax return from Villanova and irvine, but got rejected from both. Just wait until the 29th.

I got that letter as well, and I’m a likely admitted student…not sure if getting the letter means anything though.

The likely admit will bring you positive news on the 29th; the financial aid letter, not so much. :)

I ended up being accepted so maybe it was a sign :D

My kid got the Penn FA letter and an email from Duke because we were late with our taxes. Accepted at both :)

I got the financial letter and I was accepted :)

I was accepted as well. This was a sign!

[smacking my head]

This was not a sign by any means, and the posts you are making will give false hope to people in your same position next year. Stop this nonsense.

I’m not trying to spread false hope but I got this later and was accepted. Take from it what you will! Yay Quakers<3
