I wasnt home but my mom took a phone message--poorly. Apparently a recent Cornell graduate called and either wanted to talk to me on the phone or in person, didn't matter which. My mom said she didnt think it was an interview cause she thought it was a chance for me to ask questions (i have none, other than whether I can get in or not), but I think it is. I'm not sure how much it matters, cause I'll be myself either way, but what do you guys think?

I am pretty sure it is not an interview. I just called the Cornell Undergraduate office a couple of days ago asking about interviews. I never got any information on an interview, no contact information, dates, or anything else for that matter. Anyway, the person I talked to said that Cornell doesn't actually do "interviews", they just send out alumni to talk with applicants and answer their questions. She also said that if you don't have this "interview", it will have no effect on your application. Because of this, I don't think that even if you do have an interview, it will probably not be used when considering admission or not.

Idk. Just because they might not call them "inteviews" doesnt mean that it cant still be one. Just because not having an interview doesnt hurt your application doesnt mean that having one cant help. I do see what youre saying tho. Any more thoughts?

i'm still trying to figure that out. i had my "alumni meeting" a few weeks ago and it was totally like an interview. the guy asked me so many specific questions and wrote down everything i said and called my guidance counselor a few days later. i think they are spies or something lol

specific questions, eh? remember any?

it may or may not have been an interviewer...
a recent cornell graduate also called me, but she just wanted to see if had any questions. she literally didn't ask me a single question, she just wanted to know if i needed clarification on anything. however, the alumnae interviewer for my area (who also happens to be my best friend's mom...sweet right?) told me that alumnae would be calling applicants to schedule "interviews". she said that it was not a huge deal, but if you think it was an interview (and i agree, it can only help), then i would definitely contact the admissions office and ask about it.

Why would a Cornell alum be calling you? It probably was an alumni interview that really has no effect on admissions. It really is just a chance for you to ask questions about the school, however.

YES this is an interview. When I applied last year I had two or three of these. An alum from Columbia called because there wasnt anyone in the area available, so I had to do my interview over the phone. While the alum interview isn't incredibly important, a great interview can make you look even more interesting to the adcom.

I had my alum interview about a month ago and it was completely informal nothing like i expected he basically asked me some questions about why i wanted to go to cornell and stuff like that and then answered any of my questiones and spent more of his time talking about himself and his son who goes to cornell now

i just had it. not too much of an interview. couple questions each way and was over the phone.
