Is this bad?

I am getting very nervous as to how I did on my PSATs, and the date of their release is approaching ever so quickly. Lately, I've been getting emails from colleges like Flagler, Arcadia, and York College. These colleges are very good in their own rights, but their average scores are far below what I hope to score. Should I be worried that these colleges are showing such a strong interest in me? Does this mean that I did not score very well???

No college knows your PSAT score.

thank you very much silverturtle. i sleep easy tonight :P

I should add that one’s PSAT score only affects college admissions to the extent that getting Semifinalist or Commended is viewed favorably by schools. They don’t know your score unless you tell them.

scrivener - CB does sell your name to schools. My son took the PSAT in 8th grade and immediately began receiving mail from quite a few universities. All listed in CC Top Universities. Also, took the PSAT this year as a ninth grader and changed his area of interest and again has already started receiving mail. His 8th grade scores were very high. We don’t have the 9th grade scores yet.

I would think that you scored above the schools average acceptance. I think you are probably higher than the level of the students normally applying to these schools and they want to capture your interest.

If you checked the “right” box on the PSAT form you will probably get tons of information over the next few weeks. Especially if you have good scores.

Colleges don’t get the exact scores. The College Board simply notifies schools with whom it has a relationship of those who fit various criteria (oftentimes involving a score range).

My question is should I be worried at all that I’m not getting any emails/mail from, for example, the list of CC Top Universities? Maybe it could be an indicator that I am not within a “score range”?

No, emails from colleges or lack thereof indicate nothing about your score.
