Okay so at my school sometimes our teachers will make us take a test during a study hall. There is a box filled with tests at the main office that the study hall teacher will take during that period to give to students making things up. I went to the study hall and the teacher was five minutes late. Forgot the test box. Had to go down four floors to get it. Came back up. Couldn't find my test and ended up losing about 10 - 12 minutes on AP Art History. I talked to my teacher about it and she gave me extra time. And, I'm really ashamed to say, I looked at my notes between then and when I completed the test. I finished the test in pencil so my teacher could see the changes that I made because I was really unsure of what to do after I had looked at my notes and such. I guess this would definitely be considered cheating, but should I talk to my teacher about it? Do I really deserve a zero on this test? This seems like a bit of a murky situation.

Forget about it. Cheating is NOT a big deal (especially not in high school). And what you did isnt even that bad

Unfortunately, my parents screwed me up and I feel so guilty after I do the littlest things.

bump...I'm really nervous and want more opinions

Well, what you did was definitely wrong but the first step is realizing it and i commend you for that. To avoid these situations, just try to never cheat again. However, with this situation, follow what seems like the right thing to do. I mean, if you get a 0, would the consequences be huge? If it were me, i would try not to think about it and try to never do it again. hope that helps!

You should be in jail for doing that.

I understand that this isn't like murder or anything, but I really do feel bad when I do stuff like this and I hate it.

bump, I really want more input

As long as you didn't correct any questions you knew you got wrong; it's not cheating.

No, its normal.

Exactly WHO did you cheat?

Did you cheat the teacher out of anything?
Not really.

Did you cheat the other students out of anything?
Not really.

Did you cheat yourself out of anything?
Not really.

Juggz's reasoning is faulty. Cheating is cheating because it's wrong, not because "nobody got hurt"--if you steal something from a store, the owner isn't really getting hurt, but it's still wrong. And you are cheating yourself out of something--a sense of honesty and knowing that the test is an accurate representation of your knowledge.

But you don't have to be punished. It's good that you're contemplating what you might have done wrong; if you know personally that you're uncomfortable with that, I think that's fair. If it seriously affected your test grade, the teacher should know, but you're probably okay in this situation with keeping it to yourself, as long as you know you won't do it in the future.

You definitely deserve to go to jail for this, right?

You seem like a smart person, and I don't know why you made such a thread out of it, asking online people whether something vague/incident X = cheating.

While I don't completely agree with his definition, cheating=cheating because "it's wrong" is such an arbitrary and vague statement that it doesn't always work.

LOL do you know how much money the owner would lose, especially if that product was valuable?

^

Invoyable is right.
Like, life moves on.
You cheated, get over it, who hasn't?

If you're not a hardcore cheater don't worry about it, we all have done it

If you had your test besides you while the teacher left for those ten to twelve minutes and meanwhile you got your notes out and started reading at trhem and after copying what you had in your notes to the test or something similar to this then I consider it being cheating. If you just looked at your notes in a time that you had free but did not had your test with you then it wouldn’t be considered cheating. Also if you had extra time to dio your exam and meanwhile you looked at your notes then it would be cheating because now you are not takinmg the exam with what you initially knew but instead this time you are having more chances than the rest. I believe that what you are trying to explain about what you did is certainly considered as cheating but I also think that you don’t need to go to talk to your teacher because you allready commited the act of cheating. Only if you want to fill better with yourself and don’t care to get a 1 in the exam then you should tell your teacher. The question: if you deserve a zero depends on the piont of view of ach one but that depends on you. Still you should deserve to get a zero because you took advanatage of the situation when you werent supossed to do it.

this is not a big deal, so many teachers have tests over two days, do you really think students won't study inbetween to try to get an advantage. Its fine, don't worry, you didn't really do anything wrong other than study your notes. I mean seriously who wouldn't look at their notes if they were given the opportunity.

Wow, I guess i've gotten to the point where if I did something like this I wouldn't even feel like I did anything at all..

This seriously is not a big deal at all in my opinion, and its art...who cares
