Is this combination possible?

Double major in Business Admin. (Haas) and Economics and minor in philosophy. Assuming all summers are booked for internships, what would my schedule look like and how feasible would it be? Thank you in advance.

28 units of LD prerequisites for business and economics
38 units of UD business courses
32 units of UD economics courses
-8 units of UD overlap (probably intermediate micro/macro economics 100A and 100B or 101A and 101B)
24 units of philosophy minor courses
12 units of breadth not covered by economics or philosophy courses
8 units of reading and composition

134 units total

If you want to do economics with more math (101A, 101B, 141 instead of 100A, 100B, 140), then add:

8 units of math (53 and 54)

Maximum possible AP credit is:

-8 units for reading and composition (5 on English literature)
-4 units for math (5 on calculus BC) (if doing economics with more math, -4 units if skipping 1A with a 3 or higher on calculus AB or BC, -8 if skipping 1A and 1B with a 5 on calculus BC)
-4 units for economics (5 on both microeconomics and macroeconomics)

-16 units total not needed with maximum possible AP credit (-20 units if doing economics with more math)

In any case, your schedule will be rather crowded, will require careful course selection to make sure that every course fulfills something not already fulfilled, and will likely require slight overload.

Thanks ucbalumnus, as usual. Very helpful response. I’ll be able to waive one semester of R&C (5 on Lang), Econ 1 (hoping to get double 5’s), and math I guess (5 on AB, though Haas still wants two semesters of math – 16A and 16B then). I’m actually shooting for the least math-intensive courseload possible as I am more of a liberal-arts guy. So that looks to be 134 - 4 - 4 = 126 units over 8 semesters. Hmm.

Actually, it may be overcounted by 8 units, since the 28 units of LD prerequisites includes reading and composition. Also, if you take Math 16A and 16B instead of 1A and 1B, that is 2 fewer units.

I see, so you’re saying that it would actually take…umm…118 units? That actually does sound do-able :)

But remember to plan carefully. Don’t “waste” units on breadth categories that you will fulfill with the economics and philosophy courses you will be taking anyway. SBS and PV will be fulfilled automatically; AL, HS, and IS can be fulfilled with specific courses, though you can use at most two economics and two philosophy courses for the breadth. BS and PS are not fulfilled by any economics or philosophy course, and AL is not fulfilled by any economics course.

Be sure to include an AC course somewhere. This will probably have to be whichever one of AL, HS, or IS that you do not fulfill with economics or philosophy courses, or Business 156AC as a business major elective.
