Is this completely implausible?

OKAY so ever since I got to college I knew I wanted to study abroad. But I also knew I wanted to do it over the summer and not miss a whole semester at my school. I was looking at the programs offered this coming summer, and none of them really interest me enough to apply. So, I guess my question is....I wanted to study abroad not at all for the studying just for the abroad part. Do you think it's reasonable to go to (Western) Europe by myself this summer for a month or so? I want to more than anything, but it just sounds crazy and out of my league (first time traveler)

What do you guys think?

I'd advise you to try a tour group (google Contiki or Top deck Travel for tours for young people for example) if you are really uncertain, but of course it's feasible. When I was 18 I was at university in England and my parents lived in Australia. I survived. Read a guide book and I'm sure you will be fine. Also look up EUrail passes if you want to travel around. They are the best deal for long trips. You will also meet lots of other people doing the same.

Sounds like you just want a vacation..... Work one summer, earn some money and go with a friend the next summer.

No programs from anywhere? There are so many organizations that offer great summer programs as well as volunteer opportunities (that you have to pay to do ;) ) Or are you just limiting yourself to programs from a certain school? What about an intensive language program?

Contiki has a reputation for being quite a party group. I spent a week in Venice this summer at a campsite that was also a stop over for Contiki tours, and they go to a ridiculous amount of cities and really only spend a day or two each place and drink (alot) pretty much every night.

I mean, it sounds fun, but maybe not to spend that much money on drinking alot and not even fully experiencing the places you go?
