Hello, I recently got accepted into Hunter College as an undergraduate student. If the school of education accepts me, I can major in Early Childhood Education, which is what I want to do. However, they said I must major in another subject as well to continue with their program. I’ve been profoundly interested in Religion and am wondering if the two majors are too mismatched. If they don’t have anything in common, I would be taking a lot of extra classes as per to say being a history or psychology major. Do you think I should go for a more practical major that I am not so interested in, or will I be fine with Religion?
“weird Combos” can be a good thing-- they can make a job application stand out.
A Religion major could make you a potential Religion teacher… or Director of Religious Education.
You’re 17. Choose to study things that you’re interested in. If you’re “profoundly interested” in religion, then major in it.
There is nothing wrong with a second major in something that interests you. I have seen many STEM majors with second majors in humanities because they have a passion for it. As long as one major follows your career path, enjoy your elective courses and possible second major. Now is the time to spread your wings and discover new things.
