applying for Georgia Tech the question is "Recall an occasion when you took a risk that you now know was the right thing to do"

i think a good topic be that i decided to take an ap class (biology) in 11th grade for the first time despite fears that i wouldn't excel?

the reasons it would be good are because it got me very interested in pursuing science as a career, involved in doing field research for a government organization(in which i hold a position of leadership), i got a 5 on the exam, it brought me to my favorite teacher, it showed me how much better higher level classes are and how you actually walk away from them with so much more knowledge, it inspired me to take 3 more ap classes my senior year(which is also now).

it could be bad because it highlights how i only took one ap class in 11th and only have 4 ap classes in total.

Please somebody tell me if this has for the makings of a strong essay

also Georgia Tech is my first choice because it has the second best biomedical engineering program in the country, im very interested in this field because of this class

Seems like a topic that could be turned into a strong essay. They might be more interested in something that’s not as directly related to school, though, as they probably get a lot of “I took a hard class” essays.

I read somewhere and I can’t find the link, but it listed a few over-used topics. “Taking a harder class was a risk” “Comparing yourself to your room” were a couple mentioned.

I think that topic would be okay, but you should really use the essay as an opprotunity to show the Adcomm. something about you that they will not learn from your transcript. They already know about the AP classes. You might want to think of a risk you took outside the classroom - better yet - outside of school.
